It has been called the Year of the Woman, and rightly so — defined by historic political victories in the United States, MeToo-fueled uprisings around the world, and women, like Christine Blasey-Ford, who pushed fear aside to be heard. It can be hard to quantify a year in a few stories or a few sentences, so I decided to do it in quotations instead. Here are a few of the most compelling stories of as told through the voices of the women who shaped them. There will be at least women in the House next year, the largest number in history. The vast majority of the newcomers are Democrats, including the first two Muslim congresswomen and first two Native American congresswomen, and the youngest woman ever elected.
The New York Post came under a barrage of criticism last week for a front page that featured a Sept. Twitter erupted in outrage, and messages began to fly on Facebook and in WhatsApp groups for Yemeni-Americans in New York expressing fear that the newspaper cover would incite anti-Muslim violence. By Saturday morning, 10 of the most prominent Yemeni bodega owners in New York had agreed to stop selling the paper, and Yemeni taxi drivers began delivering fliers explaining the boycott to other Yemeni-owned stores. Thousands of students like me are protesting today. A study of fossil meteorites suggests that a distant asteroid collision once sent Earth into an ice age. A million-year-old fossil offered a rare treasure: the imprint of an animal that literally died in its tracks. Researchers melted and analyzed 1, pounds of snow from the region. They found traces of cosmic dust, some of it created by nearby stellar explosions.
Nicolas Cage answered many questions, with many digressions, and raised a few more in a long interview with the Talk columnist David Marchese in The New York Times Magazine. His latest, brief marriage? Cage made headlines in when he had to return a dinosaur skull to Mongolia :. I bought it at a legitimate auction and found out it was abducted from Mongolia illegally, and then I had to give it back. Of course it should be awarded to its country of origin.
