I am currently Associate Professor of English Language Studies at the New School in New York, where I teach on an on-line MA TESOL program. In this keynote talk for the HandsUp Project conference, I explore these different meanings, and argue that they all support the notion that performance - however we define it - occupies a key role in language learning and teaching.
