The Power of Eye Contact – Make Someone Fall in Love With You!
More than 20 years ago, the psychologist Arthur Aron succeeded in making two strangers fall in love in his laboratory. Let me explain. If so, how do you choose someone? But this was the first time we had hung out one-on-one. I first read about the study when I was in the midst of a breakup. Each time I thought of leaving, my heart overruled my brain. I felt stuck.
In two studies, subjects induced to exchange mutual unbroken gaze for 2 min with a stranger of the opposite sex reported increased feelings of passionate love for each other. In Study I, 96 subjects were run in the four combinations of gazing at the other's hands or eyes, or in a fifth condition in which the subject was asked to count the other's eye blinks. Subjects who were gazing at their partner's eyes, and whose partner was gazing back reported significantly higher feelings of affection than subjects in any other condition. They also reported greater liking than all subjects except those in the eye blink counting condition. In Study II, with 72 subjects, those who engaged in mutual gaze increased significantly their feelings of passionate love, dispositional love, and liking for their partner.
Science has been trying to come up with definitive ways two people can fall in love — remember those 36 questions to ask a stranger to find love? Well, apparently in addition to asking those questions, staring into another person's eyes for four minutes can ignite that spark. The staring component was actually a part of the original 36 questions story , but did not seem to get as much attention as the questions themselves probably because looking into someone's eyes isn't as fun as asking them random questions. Also it seems kinda creepy and weird, but I'm not judging. Nonetheless, the people over at SoulPancake wanted to test out the hypothesis and got a bunch of couples together.

To understand why eye contact is so important, we need to appreciate how central it is to the human experience. As it happens, humans — the only primates with white eyes — are drawn to eye contact from an early age.
