12 gods and goddesses of mount olympus
Rifles: Six Years with Wellingtons Legendary Sharpshooters by Mark UrbanAs part of the Light Division created to act as the advance guard of Wellingtons army, the 95th Rifles are the first into battle and the last out. Fighting and thieving their way across Europe, they are clearly no ordinary troops. The 95th are in fact the first British soldiers to take aim at their targets, to take cover when being shot at, to move tactically by fire and manoeuvre. And by the end of the six-year campaign they have not only proved themselves the toughest fighters in the army, they have also - at huge personal cost - created the modern notion of the infantryman.
In an exhilarating work of narrative military history, Mark Urban traces the story of the 95th Rifles, the toughest and deadliest sharpshooters of Wellingtons Army.

List of 12 Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses
In the ancient Greek world, the Twelve great gods and goddesses of the Greeks were referred to as the Olympian Gods, or the Twelve Olympians. The name of this powerful group of gods comes from Mount Olympus, where the council of 12 met to discuss matters. All 12 Olympians had a home on Mount Olympus and that was where they were most commonly found. Hades , the god of the Underworld, preferred to live there, and Poseidon often chose to stay in his palace under the sea. Most of the other Olympians would be on Mount Olympus year round unless they were travelling.
By deTraci Regula. The Greeks didn't have a "Top Ten" list of deities - but they did have the "Top Twelve" - those lucky Greek gods and goddesses living on top of Mount Olympus. Aphrodite - Goddess of love, romance, and beauty. Her son was Eros, god of Love though he is not an Olympian. Apollo - Beautiful god of the sun, light, medicine, and music. Ares - Dark god of war who loves Aphrodite , goddess of love and beauty.

In Greek mythology, twelve gods and goddesses ruled the universe from atop Greece's Mount Olympus. These Olympians had come to power after their leader, Zeus, overthrew his father, Kronos , leader of the Titans. All the Olympians are related to one another. The Romans adopted most of these Greek gods and goddesses, but with new names. The most powerful of all, Zeus was god of the sky and the king of Olympus. His temper affected the weather, and he threw thunderbolts when he was unhappy. He was married to Hera but had many other lovers.
Although Hades was a major ancient Greek god, and was the brother of the first generation of Olympians Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia , he resided in the underworld , far from Olympus, and thus was not usually considered to be one of the Olympians. The Olympians were a race of deities , primarily consisting of a third and fourth generation of immortal beings, worshipped as the principal gods of the Greek pantheon and so named because of their residency atop Mount Olympus. They gained their supremacy in a ten-year-long war of gods , in which Zeus led his siblings to victory over the previous generation of ruling gods, the Titans. Although Hades was a major deity in the Greek pantheon , and was the brother of Zeus and the other first generation of Olympians, his realm was far away from Olympus in the underworld , and thus he was not usually considered to be one of the Olympians. The canonical number of Olympian gods was twelve, but besides the thirteen principal Olympians listed above, there were many other residents of Olympus, who thus might be called Olympians. Besides the twelve Olympians, there were many other various cultic groupings of twelve gods throughout ancient Greece. Olympia apparently also had an early tradition of twelve gods.
