Please God, Not Others
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where the pressure and influence of your peers pushed you in a direction you opposed? Peer pressure affects every age. Some adults are weaker at resisting this type of influence than some children and teenagers. In the book of Daniel, there are of three Hebrew young men who were taken into captivity to Babylon along with their friend Daniel. The original names of the three young men were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Their captures changed their names to the Babylonian names Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Peer pressure. A peer is a person who is equal to another in abilities, qualifications, age, background, and social status. So what is peer pressure? It is where there is social pressure by members of one's peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted. So what impact does peer pressure have on you? And what does the Bible say about it? Avoiding peer pressure sometimes means going against the flow Peer pressure is going in the same direction as the crowd.

We are not to try to fit in with the worldly cool crowd. Scripture says to set yourself apart from the world and expose evil. Find wise friends who can appreciate you for who you are and walk in the path of righteousness. Pray to God for wisdom to better handle any situation that you are facing. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice. Turn away and keep moving.
Peer pressure is when we feel compelled to act a certain way because we want to fit in and be accepted by certain people. Nobody wants to be the person who gets talked about or laughed at. But, unfortunately, sometimes we lose focus of who we really are because it becomes more important to us to just fit in, especially when we're young. Sometimes the pressure that we feel involves superficial things, like dressing a certain way to be considered cool. We have to have the name-brand clothes or shoes.
What does the Bible say about? Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man?
