Four Keys to Building Lasting Relationships. The first part of the book is written as a parable about a dog and a cat and how they learn to trust each other. We realized that we needed to emphasize that trust is a two-way street. So in our finished story, not only is the dog trying to get the cat to trust him, but the cat has to get the dog to trust her too. Of course, the story is a metaphor for any relationship where people need to create and build trust with one another. Readers will be able to apply it to their working relationships as well as their relationships with family and friends. If even one of these behaviors is absent, trust erodes.
Trust Works! They tell us that trust is in the eye of the beholder. We can be completely unaware that our behavior is eroding the trust of those around us. The first part of the book is a parable think of a Patrick Lencioni book in which he uses a fable to illustrate his points and then summarizes the main points at the end of the book about how the lack of trust between a cat and a dog threatens the tranquility of an animal friendly family. In the second part of the book we are introduced to trust-building resources. Throughout the parable, we are given tools to evaluate our behavior in regards to ability, believability, connectedness and dependability.
