I am really picky when it comes to reading fantasy mangas. Although Genbu Kaiden was a prequel to the original FY Mysterios Play , the story can perfectly stand alone on its own. Those who have not heard of the first FY would still be able to fully enjoy this book. In addition, those who were a fan of the first FY will automatically fall in love with Genbu Kaiden. Fun Fact: There is an otome game created for this manga. When her mother passed away, Takiko blamed her father for his neglect and decided to destroy the book out of sheer anger.

Fushigi Yuugi is that series that was one of my first anime series when I was about 15 years old, and it has been and always will be very special to me. That being said, re-watching it now, 13 years later and with the completion of Genbu Kaiden —why is it or what is it that makes Miaka and Tamahome so special that their love gets to defy all odds, almost to the point of deus ex machina standards over all the other priestesses? So when I started following Genbu Kaiden when it premiered in I was really looking forward to reading about a new priestess. She had to struggle just to make her own Seishi join her, let alone get the common people—who have been led to believe that she is only going to bring about destruction and havoc to their world—on her side. I felt so much more for Takiko because she was so young and so alone. Her mother was dead, her father preferred she was a boy, and the first person she meets in the Universe of the Four Gods treated her rather coldly in the beginning.

In the year of , roughly years before Miaka and Yui encountered the book and around ten years before a girl named Suzuno did so too , novelist Einosuke Okuda came back to Japan from China obtaining the original Chinese version of an ancient ceremonial scripture called The Universe of the Four Gods Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho where he worked tirelessly translating them into Japanese and bind them into book form. Neglecting his ill wife Yoshie and stressed daughter Takiko Okuda, who recently moved from Tokyo to Yoshie's hometown for her mom's further care, has to put up with a new school life , and being constantly teased by her classmates for having a sick mother. Onto the moment when Yoshie actually died , the father and daughter went into a quarrel that led to Einosuke having an I Have No Son! Grieved of loneliness, and uselessness , Takiko took the translated book from her father and was going to rip it apart until the book suddenly starts to shine bright and absorbs her into the book, becoming the legendary Priestess of Genbu. The seven Celestial Warriors' backstories and point-of-views play an important part in the storytelling of this work.
